Where AI answers come from
An AI assistant does not have private knowledge of your business. It assembles an answer from what it can find and verify: your website, your business profile, directories, review platforms, news coverage and any place your name appears alongside a clear description of what you do.
When those sources agree and are specific, you are easy to summarise—and easy to recommend. When they are thin, outdated or contradictory, you are simply left out, even when you are the better choice.
The three things that decide whether you are named
Across the platforms we monitor, the businesses that get referenced consistently share the same traits.
- Clarity: the services, locations and specialties are stated plainly, not buried in brand language.
- Consistency: the same name, address, phone, hours and service list appear everywhere.
- Evidence: real content answering real questions, plus reviews and mentions that back up the claims.
What to do this quarter
Start by asking a few assistants the questions your customers would ask—'best pediatric dentist in McKinney', 'who repairs commercial HVAC near me'. Note who is named and how your business is described when it appears.
Then fix the description. Tighten your service pages so each one covers a single offering in plain terms, add structured data so machines can read your services and locations without guessing, and reconcile every listing that disagrees with your website.
This is not a loophole. It is the same principle search has always rewarded: be genuinely useful, easy to understand and consistent everywhere you appear.
